John is a leader and pioneer in the Sexual Addiction therapy field. He is a licensed clinical social worker, certified sex therapist, and certified sexual addiction therapist-supervisor with over 25 years experience in the behavioral health field. John has an international reputation for his speaking and training endeavors in the areas of sexuality and gender. John has presented across the United States and the Caribbean, as well as in West Africa, Asia and Europe.
Currently, John serves as Certification Committee Chair for the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). In addition, John is a Board Emeritus for both the Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH), as well as VOICES in Action Inc., a survivors of sexual abuse support organization. Prior to founding The Institute for Essential Change, John served as the founder and president of The Florida Institute for Recovery and Sex Therapy.
John specializes in treating sex offenders, co-dependency issues and co-occurring addiction disorders. John has a wealth of experience helping clients explore process and resolve trauma issues. In addition, John possesses a rich background assisting clients with co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, bipolar depression, dissociative identity disorder (D.I.D.), and personality disorders.
